papajon

Arguably, wristwatches could be the single greatest development of modern technology, with divers watches being a prime example of the claim. Wristwatches are some of the most precise machines that people use in their daily lives, and this is fortunate because in some situations, lives are staked on their proper and accurate operation. The accuracy of divers watches are an example on which lives are staked. There are many other extremely important tasks that the modern wristwatch is expected to perform, as well. Not only does this amazing, miniature machine have many practical uses, it is one of the most stylish and eye-catching pieces of jewelry an individual can wear.

The capstone of the personal ensemble of wardrobe and jewelry of an individual is the wristwatch. It can say more about the personality than any other article that is worn on the body. For this reason, it is a very good thing that there is such a wide and varied selection of watches on the market from which to choose. Choosing the right watch is an important part of the articulation of the desired first impression. Simply by choosing the wrong color of watch could leave a stranger with an impression of the wearer that is less than desired.

Several attributes must be considered when trying to match the perfect wristwatch to a given personality. The shape of the face and the band says volumes to an observer similar to the material from which they are made. The arrangement of jewels, features, and decorations make a big difference to the overall appearance. Just as the look of the dials on Swiss army watches can be the deciding factor of the amount of respect that outdoorsmen might get from their peers, the peers of a banker might, arbitrarily, pay more or less respect depending on the placement of diamonds on the face of his watch.

The style and features are no less important than are the practical capabilities of the modern wristwatch to the individual who wears one. A watch is capable of serving many practical purposes, many of which most people are unaware. The quality of a meal could depend on the facility and accuracy of the one worn by the chef. The details of a watch that assist in determining the cardinal directions could save miles of walking for someone lost in the wilderness, and even death and severe injuries are averted by divers watches.

The style and appearance of designer watches are just as important to bankers and business executives as the practical features of divers watches and Swiss army watches are to those who spend time in the wilderness. Those who depend on them in their daily lives do not take the details of these miraculous little machines lightly. When new technologies are developed, some of the first thoughts that go into them are the ways in which they might be applied to the wristwatch. This so much that they could be considered the article by which all new technologies are measured.

The one big difference you’ll note though when looking a purpose made diver watches is that form generally follows function. In other words these are designed primarily to function in a demanding environment deep under the sea. That means that dive watches usually have solid faces, thick straps and locking bezels.

papajon

You probably already knew that diving watches—while certainly acceptable for diving—are marketed just as much for non-divers as they are hardcore divers and military units. The latter explains why. A diving watch as a fashion statement can take all the qualities of a toned, tanned elite diver and incorporate all them into the watch. Who knew that watches could serve such a powerful fashion metaphor?

Up your cool factor

Whether diving watches have fancy movements, triple-time zones or artfully-crafted dials and bezels, you can be sure that they will make a statement about your person. These pieces of wrist-wear are made for both sexes and give nearly anyone that cool, svelte look that only three-piece suits and lace-up Rockports could only fathom doing. Not only are diver watches cool-as-hell, and not only do they go to super-duper great depths in the sea—they also evoke a sense of “action” in their owners.

As far as others are concerned, you’re one that has served in elite military units. You’ve been a paratrooper for the Swiss government, and you’ve been a Navy Seal. You could have looked death in the eye—a killer shark or legendary giant-squid, perhaps—and lived the experience to gloat to tell it. Talk about cool!

Form over function—or is it function over form?

As stated before, of course, many diving watches never even come close to open water. People love them because of their attributes. Most do not even understand how those fancy dials, bezels, chronographs and chronometers actually work. And that’s fine, because these watches are marketed to practically everybody—not just the professional diver. Of course, if you wanted to use these deep underwater, most submerse up to 2000 feet quite comfortably and also come with such handy features as rotating bezels that serve as an alarm clock as to when you will run out of oxygen.

There are essentially two varieties of diving watches:

The attribute type of diving watch is far more about form over function. These are the Blancpains, Panerai’s, Swiss Armies and Rolexes that are meant more for show. Nonetheless, they will usually come with essential diving features such as depth resistance, fancy luminescence and bezels that revolve and rotate.

The computer variety of diving watches is more-or-less just that: computerized. They rely on sophisticated electronics to aid divers in critical measurements like depth, temperature, air mixture availability, and a myriad of electronic alarms that sound when circumstances are dire. They often feature the ability to even download diving data to a PC or MAC, share it or to just sit there and bask in your accomplishment.

The crème-de-la crème of dive watches

Among the most distinguished, most ruggedly-elegant watches there are a few diving watches that stand-out from the pack:

Luminox’s Navy Seal Chronograph

Bulgari’s Diagono Professional’s Scuba

Blancpain’s “50th Anniversary Fifty Fathoms” (which will set you back a “miniscule” $13k)

Oris’s TT1 Divers Regulator 1000m watch

Tag Heuer’s Aquaracer 2000

Online varieties for all budgets

Okay, yes—those are some fairly high-end diving watches. However, there are brands online that are much, much more affordable. They are also just as handsome and lush as the former brands and models, and can fool practically anyone into believing that the time-piece is a five-figure watch.

papajon

Wenger is the legendary manufacturer of Swiss Army knives. It all started at the Paul Boechat and Cie cutlery plant in Delemont, Switzerland, and Theodore Wenger was the man behind the knife. With the huge success of the Swiss Army knife, Wenger watches were introduced.

Today, the company is owned by Victorinox of Ibach, Switzerland and has been branded Wenger & Co. S.A. They are most-notably known as Wenger Swiss watches, due to their long and storied history manufacturing and selling Swiss Army knives. Wenger is hugely-known to produce some of the most beautiful, durable and precise watches in the world—thanks to their prestigious Swiss-Made legacy.

Models of Wenger Watches

When you own a Wenger Watch, you are literally wearing over a 100 years of watch-making and knife-making on your wrist. Take for example Wenger’s GST line: they’re truly, stunningly beautiful in their precise construction, as well as hand-crafted in the highest-quality stainless steels. They are also the same type use by Swiss Elite Forces and come as simple watches, watch-chronographs or watch-chronometers.

The TerraGraph line is another one of Wenger’s creations. Many of them sport brown or black leather straps, white or silver dials/bezel, and come standard with the Swiss Made insignia as well as the benchmark Swiss Quartz Movement technology (of which almost all authentic Swiss watches have).

The Battalion Diver series is a very attractive line of Wenger watches. The different Battalion watches have dark blue dials and metal bezels, stainless steel bands; others have black faces and bezels, with ornate white or gold dials and either stainless steel bands or leather straps.

Finally, the Aerograph collection has—in the opinion of many—some of the most beautiful watches ever designed and manufactured. Take, for example, the AeroGraph Chrono; it has a very distinctive bright yellow dial and black, stainless steel encasing and leather strap. Or the AeroGraph Cockpit Chrono: this features an elegant brown dial, with a brown leather strap and a 12-hour chronograph function. The Wenger chronograph mechanism is durable and reliable.

The range also includes some really beautiful watches for women and it is hard to beat a Wenger ladies watch if you are looking for an especially special gift for an extra special woman.

Benchmarks of Wenger Swiss quality

Those are just a few examples of quality Wenger watches. When you own a Wenger watch, you can be sure of the following, though:

•	It has the benchmark Swiss quartz movement

•	It uses, most-likely, the industry-standard “screw-on” casing

•	It is made from the highest-quality mineral crystal

•	It is back by Wenger’s industry-leading 3-year limited warranty

•	Most are submersible up to an individually-specified depth

•	And most benefit from the Wenger external unidirectional bezel

Extraordinary quality

Wenger’s watches are easily comparable to the likes of Rolex, Tag Heuer or even Cartier. How? They meet or exceed all of all the former’s levels of sophistication, technology, elegance and durability. Plus, they are made in Switzerland—the very country which invented the prestigious Quartz Movement and Swiss Movement. This is what makes Wenger watches certified as Swiss-Made, label that is highly-protected by international trade organizations and the Swiss government itself.

If you go online to find a Wenger Swiss, you’ll find tons of fine examples. Beware though, as there are plenty of counterfeiters out there; one of the easiest ways to spot a counterfeiter is to notice the price. Does it seem far too-low for such a sophisticated timepiece? Does the product description not specifically say either “Made in Switzerland” or “Swiss Made”? In the end, though, you will know a real Wenger Swiss when you see it, and if you are still not sure about it—call the company and make sure.

The Swiss military watch is a timeless expression of beauty, precision, ruggedness and innovation. Since its humble beginnings in 1963’s Switzerland, Swiss watches and their patented Swiss Quartz Movement have set the benchmark for many of their competitors. Chronometers and chronographs are two of the most instantly identifiable hallmarks of the Swiss watch. Tests of endurance through deep water submersion, heavy shocks and dirt/dust infiltration tests have all proved the Swiss timepiece to be second-to-none. Precision and hand-craftsmanship is what it is all about.

Caveat Emptor

When you give a Swiss military watch to someone you care about, make sure it’s the real thing. Any genuine Swiss watch will have the insignia “Swiss Made” engraved or stamped on it. As with most things of such high-value/high-demand, there will always be counterfeiters. The Swiss government, the World Intellectual Property Organization and the World Trade Organization work very hard to protect the brand. Additionally, for a watch to bear the “Swiss Made” insignia, it legally must be at least 50% produced in Switzerland. This means that a minimum of the watch inner case, the movement and the dials have to be of direct Swiss origin, and the final inspection must be done in Switzerland.

Endless Variety

With that little caveat out of the way, take a little time to discover the different models of Swiss military watches. Different varieties include: The Grenadier GMT (Heer), the International Special Forces wrist-watch, a number of limited series pieces, and the Luftwaffe editions—which include the Air Force 1 special edition, and the Paratrooper, and the Navy Diver and Seals II editions.

A Closer Look at Some Of The Offerings

•	Grenadier: This rugged, stainless steel chronograph was originally developed for the Swiss Elite Corps for use in the extreme conditions of the snowy Alps.

•	Navy Diver: Used by the toughest of the tough in armies around the world, the skilled Diver’s watch is a chronograph, stainless steel watch capable of submersions deep as 660 feet.

•	Argonaut: One of the most prized Swiss military chronographs available. Made from 25 jewels and submersible up-to 1000m, this watch is the very pinnacle of what a military watch should be.

•	Air Force I: A timeless, enduring symbol of ruggedness and elegance, this watch is worn by the majority of the U.S. President’s Air Force One Group.

•	Paratrooper: Also one of the most prized timepieces by Swiss, this military watch is encased in genuine Titanium and features the second-to-none Swiss-made Ronda calibration and a bulletproof 43.0mm case enclosure; submersible to 200 meters.

The Gift Any Outdoorsman Will Love

Those are only a very few editions of authentic Swiss military watches. However, practically any style will please even the most discerning gentleman or gentlewoman. Usually, these watches even come with their own case that looks and feels almost as good as the watch itself. Anyone would love to receive one: those in law enforcement, the Navy or Marines, Coast Guard, firefighters, thrill-seekers and just about anyone else. Give the perfect gift to anyone who loves the great outdoors—give them a quality-made, dependable Swiss-made military watch.

The submariner has a long and illustrious past. It was first introduced in 1953 and since then it has gained widespread popularity as a water-resistant watch and soon after its introduction it was already seen as an instant favourite among the pioneers of deep-sea diving. Part of its mystique clearly relates to the fact that this is a superbly engineered product. But it also owes its fame to clever marketing helped by, among other things, its placement on the wrist of Sean Connery when he played the role of 007 in in the early James Bond series. Having “Commander Bond” wearing your watch on his adventures would have been a great help in establishing its reputation for style and toughness. Yet it was not just in its looks. In many ways Rolex helped to popularize the dive watch, with many claiming that this was in fact the original diving watch with its resistance to 100 meters (since increased).

Since then, Rolex has managed to keep the watch alive with constant innovation. By the mid-1960s some significant change in its design were introduced. Rounded shoulders were added as opposed to the pyramid-shaped shoulders of the earlier models These surround the crown (winder) to provide it with protection from bangs and knocks. The other significant change was the use of Tritium-infused paint instead of radium. Rolex also used white printing instead of silver gilt.
Over the years Rolex has continued to refine the watch, improving it steadily by adding to its features. New models are now more water-resistant than older ones, for instance, while a whole range of sibling watches has grown out of the original stable. These include the Rolex Daytona, the Rolex Sea Dweller and the Yach-Master.
Apart from the sheer joy of owning one of the masterpieces is the knowledge that, in general, these watches retain their value over time. They are not just pure luxuries, but if well cared for can be real investments and family heirlooms

Even cheap quartz digital watches or almost-throwaway watches like $25 Swatch watches can take a heck of a lot of abuse. A secret I picked up when I first started Scuba diving was that a lot of the older professional divers out there didn’t bother with fancy and expensive diving watches, they just used cheap little Casio and Swatch watches and seemed really happy with them. So for basic wear it is true that most of today’s watches will routinely stand up to abuse that would have quickly killed our grandparents’ watches, even if they might take a few scratches on the way (a real downside of the cheap Swatch, with its plastic face, in my view).

That said, there is a certain satisfaction that one derives from wearing a really high quality, well made watch. It is more about knowing you are wearing an art work, or an engineering marvel, than it is about really expecting to put your watch to the supreme test. And if that sort of thing appeals to you then you have to be impressed by the CX Swiss Military 20,000 feet Watch, which is without any doubt the world’s toughest watch.

What it takes to be the World’s toughest watch

It takes quite a bit to be called the toughest watch in the world, but this one has a lot going for it. The CX 20,000 holds the world record for the deepest dive. It has also been blown up with dynamite and just kept ticking. If that isn’t enough the guys who make the CX Swiss Military Watch have dropped it out of airplanes, stomped on it and done just about anything you can think of to get it to stop working. In one video the company blasts it with high powered fire hoses at Zurich airport, in another they place it just a few feet from some explosives in what they call a “real live test” in a quarry. They also placed another watch (they don’t say who) alongside the Swiss Military Watch. The Swiss Military watch was fine, the competitors one was blow to pieces. In another test they put the watch in a shooting range and blasted it with a three rounds from a12 gauge pump action shot. And it just laughed at the abuse, picked up a few scratches and carried on ticking. Another competitor watch was completely destroyed even though it was supposedly one of the toughest watches you can get. In a third test on its own ordinary 1000m certified dive watch, the watch was also completely smashed. So if you plan to get shot, blown up, dropped out of a plane or hosed down by a fire engine and want your watch to keep on ticking, then one of these tough CX Swiss Military Watches is the one for you.

papajon

Titanium watches are hardy like you wouldn’t believe, and they will literally take a licking and keep on ticking. But they do have some drawback worth mentioning, and they are usually very specific to the watch you are looking at. Generally speaking, they are elegant, indestructible, lightweight, and long lasting. They require next to no maintenance and this is one of the features that most endear them to their owners. Titanium watches can be expensive though, and if you want a great deal you are going to have to do a fair amount of hunting to get it. You may have better luck online, where your every whim can be satisfied within seconds as far as shopping and questions go. Poke around the different brands offered and see what appeals to you.

Titanium Watches for Women

As we stare down the barrel of another Valentine’s Day, it occurs to me that many men will be looking for a nice gift for their wives. A beautiful watch is a great way to signify the time you have spent together and the future to come. Consider titanium watches for women who do a lot of working with their hands, as they are so nice and light, as well as very durable, but be aware that a watch with ion coating will scratch and look trashy over time if she is using it a whole heck of a lot. Best to make sure she is not contending with those issues when buying her a watch. Look for a lady’s Seiko, they make a wonderful watch, in many different materials, and they are sure to offer something that will please the woman in your life. Make sure that it is very feminine, no matter what the watch will be used for, and try to remember no matter what she will want something delicate looking and pretty, functional is not the way to go for a woman’s watch. It must look like a piece of jewelry, regardless of what she will use it for and that is why titanium is a good way to go for women, you can get a lovely delicate looking watch that can go through the earth’s core if it has to. Women are funny creatures, being one I can state that for sure, and personally, even though I am a trained blacksmith and horseshoer, I don’t want anything mannish as a gift so spend some time looking for something special for a woman.

Titanium Watches for Men

This can be a tricky pick, if you want a fancy dress watch as a man, go ahead, black titanium watches will work fine for you so long as you are not using it for everyday use. The coating that is on a black titanium watch is going to scratch all up and look really trashy in the end, so if it is a watch your man is going to wear every day follow the no coatings rule, and pass on the black. Titanium watches are great for diving as well as just plain working, and some of these bad boys are really amazing in their capabilities, diving deeper that anything you ever thought possible so if your man is big into diving consider this for father’s day or Christmas time. Men’s watch styles vary greatly with a man’s preference, and unlike ladies watches there are really no rules to what a man should like to wear. As a rule, men’s watches are larger and a little heftier looking in general than a woman’s watch would be, and titanium watches don’t break with this tradition. They have to be able to hold up to the kinds of things most men like doing, and as I stated earlier, unless it is going to sit on a velvet pillow most of the time pass on the ion coating. A watch for a man is a great gift, and if he receives an heirloom quality watch he is likely to pass it on in his estate to his children when he is gone, so try to remember that if you are looking for that special something to let him know you care about him forever.

papajon

If you are in the market for one or more quality Swiss diving watches, you had better take the time to really get to know your options out there. Diving watches are a must, it is not like you can dive without one, and if your watch dies in the deep blue, that can really ruin your trip fast so having one you can really count on being right every time is not something you can afford to be without. Swiss watches are known for their reliability and the watches they offer are no exception to the rule. Take a peek at the ones offered online, the internet is a great place to buy things like this, and figure out which watch suites your tastes and needs. This is a big purchase, and likely to cost you a boatload of money (pardon the pun) in the process.

The Rolex Submariner

This is the crème dele crème of Swiss diving watches, and is by far in a way one of the very best products you can buy, period. If you are looking for a really phenomenal gift for a husband, father, or son who loves to dive this is the gift to boot. Trust me when I tell you, the Submariner is the watch to beat in the quality department. The chronometer has COSC certification, it is about forty millimeters, is made of high quality steel, boasts a black, rotatable bezel, has a sapphire crystal, and a black face and dial. The Submariner is waterproof to three hundred meters or one thousand feet, is self winding and has a flip lock bracelet. The Submariner has been a big name in diving watches since it came out in nineteen fifty three. The Rolex website doesn’t say how much this bad boy is going to put you back, but if you are lucky enough to receive one as a gift from say, your lovely wife, know that you are going to be rubbing her shoulders for a pretty long while.

Swiss Army Dive Watches Offered

This company runs the Dive Master 500 line in watches, and there are six in this line to choose from. Two of the six have a stainless watch band, and the other four have a rubber strap band. Boasting Swiss analog quartz movement, and there are two with black faces, two with white faces, and one which has a blue face, and one with an orange face. The models in this line start at about five hundred dollars and end up at around six hundred dollars for the ones with a stainless steel band. They, like the Citizen, feature luminescent hands for added visibility underwater and have a three year manufacturer’s warrantee, ensuring that you enjoy your watch for a long time. They all have a screw down case back and are good for diving up to over sixteen hundred feet, or five hundred meters which is very impressive. Swiss diving watches are a big name in diving safety, and the Swiss Army company delivers this along with so many of its other reliable products offered.

If money is really an issue for you you may also want to consider some watches made in other parts of the world such as the The Citizen Professional Diver.

This is, at least in performance capability, comparable to the Submariner. Watertight to three hundred meters (one thousand feet) this watch will never need a battery, and will be able to gather all the energy it will ever need from light it collects. Retail price is almost three hundred dollars, but I was able to find the watch online offered on sale for about two hundred twenty dollars or so. The case is forty four millimeters across and is highly visible while underwater. The bracelet is a durable black rubber band, ensuring that the diver doesn’t lose the watch while out and about under water and has a five year Citizen United States warrantee. I also really like how the hands on this watch luminescent as you are underwater, making them easier to see in compromised light situations that you may be diving in (like at home here in the Puget Sound, at least you will be able to see you are wearing a watch). Citizen is a great watch and has been around for a long time, it is a good name to trust.

papajon

A Swiss chronograph is not necessarily made in Switzerland; it also includes time pieces made from Swiss components. Switzerland is a big name in watches and Swiss chronographs for good reason, and the quality derived from the Swiss products will last you an entire lifetime should you choose to purchase one of these time pieces. Take a look at one of my favorite companies in Swiss time pieces and the wide range of products offered to the public, Breitling is one of the very best names in these products and in Swiss chronographs, and makes watches for the military, as well as for private use for civilians. These products are used for diving, aerospace, and any other use you would need to have this kind of precision.

The Products Offered by Breitling

Breitling offers four lines of Swiss chronograph (the Navitimer, the Windrider, the Professional, and the AeroMarine), and none of them can be purchased save through an authorized dealer. This means you should not try to buy one on the Internet. This is because there are so many frauds out there, and unfortunately this not only brings the cost on the true product up but makes it a little tougher to even find them in the first place. Breitling will not honor the warrantee on any product they did not make regardless of whether it bears their logo or not so know that you must buy from an associate they trust. With forty one unique models offered, it is likely that they have something that will suite your needs.

The Navitimer Line

The Navitimer line has been around for almost sixty years, and there are eleven models offered in this line. They range from the space aged to the classic art piece, and feature some of the most advanced attributes available in the business today. The models are as follows The Navitimer, the Navitimer World, the Cosmonaute, the Cosmonaute Limited Edition, the Montbrillant, the Montbrilliant Olympus, The Montbrillant Legende, the Montbrillant Datora, the Chrono-Matic 49, the Chrono-Matic 1461, and the Chrono-Matic QP. All of them are featured on the Breitling website and they range in face size from 37mm to 49mm, giving a very nice range for folks to consider.

The Windrider Line

The Windrider line is a beautiful line of Swiss chronograph, very elegant, and this line has many watches which might interest the female set, some are smaller, and even jewelry like in their styling. These models include the Chronomat B01, the Chronomat, the Cockpit, the Lady Cockpit, the Chrono Cockpit, the Starliner, and the Blackbird. The line has a wonderfully diverse set of faces, and wrist bands, and will look great on anyone who wants one of these fine time pieces.

The Professional Line

This line is really geared more towards men, they are on the bigger side and will be a little unwieldy for ladies. This is a great line, and they have classic styling that any pilot or survivelist will really enjoy. Models include the Emergency, the Aerospace, the Airwolf, the AIrwolf Raven, the Skyracer, the Skyracer Raven, and the Co-Pilot. Seven models, seven really nice Swiss chronographs, and they couldn’t be better if Breitling tried.

The AeroMarine Line

There are so many great watches in this line, the Super Avenger, the Avenger, the Avenger Seawolf Chrono, the Avenger Seawolf, the Chrono Super Ocean, the Super Ocean Steelfish, the Super Ocean Heritage Chrono, the Super Ocean Heritage 46, the Super Ocean Heritage 38, the Chrono Colt, the Colt GMT, the Colt GMT +, the Colt Automatic, the Colt Quartz, and the Colt Oceane. Wow, that is a mouthful, with sixteen different models offered in this line and every one of them a winner. You could not find a better gift for your husband or father, and this Swiss chronograph will last him his lifetime. They also hold their value well and should need no maintenance, they are one of the few things that when you buy it you should never have to worry about it again, some of these watches made by Breitling were made to go into space for Pete’s sake, so I can’t really see why you would even want to look at a different manufacturer.

papajon

Swiss military watches come in a wide range of prices and features, not to mention brands. I think that when it comes to quallity, you can’t beat Swiss, even though there are quite a few other military style watches made by other countries such as Germany. The Swiss have made fantastic products for a very long time, and even though you can buy a great many cheaper watches out there, the Swiss military watch still reigns supreme. Take a quick look at where to buy them, and how much you should pay, as well as some really special reasons for owning one in the first place as well as where to find more Wenger watch reviews.

Why a Swiss Military Watch?

Wenger Swiss watches run like, well, clock work. You can’t beat the price, and they last forever. They never lose their ability to keep time, and are immune to an insane amount of damage, taking punishment over the years you would not believe possible, for example, I had mine slammed between a truck and a twelve hundred pound horse, with me in it no less. Trashed the cell phone in my pocket, put a dent in the truck, knocked the wind out of me, but didn’t even crack the face on the watch. That is why you want a Swiss military watch; they last longer than almost anything. And mine isn’t an unusual story, you will find tons of similar stories posted all over theInternet.

Where to Find the Best Deal on the Best Watch?

You can find Wenger Swiss military watches all over the Internet, as well as many fine department stores, and I have even seen them offered at Costco for a really great price, so finding a good buy isn’t really that hard. I think the best place to find them though is online, and whereas it is true you don’t get to “feel” the product, most companies guarantee that you will like the product and so will take it back should you not like it once you get it home. EBay is a great place to start; they will have both new and used watches for you to peruse. Amazon.com is another great site to shop, and I was surprised at how many products they were offering, and also how good the prices were.

What Company is the Best?

There are quite a few good companies out there, but I like Wenger the best, makers of the original Swiss Army Knife. That is the particular watch that got slammed into my truck the day a client’s ornery horse decided to take us down, and it is still working today. They are easy to read, affordable, and hold up to an impressive amount of moisture and wear. I have never heard of one wearing out, come to think of it, and buying one means you never have to get a new watch. Ever. That said there are some other brilliant Swiss army watches out there, Hanowa also makes a range of great Swiss Military Watches that are widely praised for toughness and reliability.

Among the toughest watches in the world are the CX Swiss Military Watches from Montres Charmex. Their 20000 feet watch is waterproof down to 7,500 meters and holds the current world diving record. They also equip a number of special forces as well as paramilitary forces including the SWAT Team in Cologne, Germany as well as the Close Protection Team (CPU) working with the United Nations in Kosovo. How tough are these watches? One was thrown out of an aircraft flying at a hight of 1,500 meters (about 4,500 feet) by a German Special Forces parachutist. The watch survived!

Occasions to Consider a Swiss Military Watch

My husband received one from his parents when he graduated from high school, one from my parent’s when he graduated from university, and one from way back when he was in cub scouts. They all still work perfectly! The gift is best given to a young man I think, at his wedding, that would be a good time to give a young man a watch like this (and a little funny too, if you think about it) and these also make a really thoughtful retirement gift for someone you care about. Young boys think these are the very coolest gifts, they will stare at them, completely enamored for a long time, the gift makes them feel important and big, two things boys love to emulate. We gave each of my nephews a Swiss Military Watch when they started scouts, and they just loved theirs, it is one of their few true treasures.

This Wenger watch review was a guest post by Natasha D. A great place to read more reviews is on Amazon.com, where many of these watches are available.
